Following are the procedure steps:

Incision: In open radical prostatectomy, a single incision is made in the lower abdomen, either vertically or horizontally.
Access to the Prostate: The surgeon carefully separates surrounding tissues to access the prostate gland.
Prostate Removal: The surgeon removes the entire prostate gland along with seminal vesicles and nearby tissues if necessary. Lymph nodes in the pelvic area may also be removed for examination to determine if cancer has spread.
Closure: After the prostate is removed, the surgeon closes the incision with sutures or staples.
Recovery: A drainage tube may be inserted to remove excess fluids from the surgical site. The urinary catheter remains in place temporarily to assist with urine drainage.
