Adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the adenoids, which are small masses of lymphatic tissue located at the back of the nasal cavity.

Adenoids help the body fight infections, but they can become enlarged and cause various health issues, particularly in children.

Here are some common types as below:

  • Complete Adenoidectomy
  • Partial Adenoidectomy

Following are the procedure steps:

1. Preoperative Assessment: The patient undergoes a thorough examination, including a medical history review and possibly imaging studies (like an X-ray) to assess the size of the adenoids.

2. Anesthesia Administration: The patient is given general anesthesia to ensure they remain unconscious and pain-free during the procedure.

3. Accessing the Adenoids: The surgeon accesses the adenoids through the mouth. No external incisions are needed.

4. Removal of Adenoids: Using specialized instruments, the surgeon carefully removes the adenoid tissue.

5. Hemostasis: The surgeon ensures any bleeding is controlled.

6. Recovery: The patient is monitored in the recovery area until the anesthesia wears off. Most patients go home the same day.
