Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance of the skin by targeting various skin issues such as pigmentation, sun damage, broken capillaries, and acne.

IPL devices emit a range of light wavelengths that are absorbed by different chromophores (pigment-containing cells) in the skin, such as melanin in pigmented lesions or hemoglobin in blood vessels.

Here are some common types as below:

Following are the procedure steps:

1. Consultation: Initial consultation with a dermatologist or licensed practitioner to determine suitability for the treatment based on skin type, medical history, and treatment goals.

2. Preparation:

Skin Assessment: Examination of the skin to identify target areas and tailor the treatment settings.

Skin Cleansing: Thorough cleansing of the treatment area to remove makeup, oils, and dirt.

Protective Measures: Application of a cooling gel on the treatment area and provision of protective eyewear to shield eyes from the intense light.

3. Treatment:

Device Settings: Adjusting the IPL device to appropriate settings based on skin type and the specific issue being addressed.

Light Pulses: The device handpiece is placed against the skin, and pulses of light are emitted. Patients might feel a slight stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snap.

Multiple Passes: Depending on the severity of the condition, multiple passes over the treatment area might be necessary.

4. Post-Treatment Care:

Cooling: Application of cool packs or soothing creams to reduce any discomfort or redness.

Sun Protection: Strong emphasis on avoiding direct sun exposure and using broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect the treated area.

Follow-up: Scheduling follow-up sessions if necessary, usually spaced a few weeks apart for optimal results.
