Aesthetic Microdermabrasion: A non-invasive cosmetic procedure that exfoliates the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis to improve the appearance and texture of the skin.

Microdermabrasion involves the use of a mechanical device that sprays fine crystals or uses a diamond-tipped wand to abrade the skin. The procedure stimulates collagen production, enhances skin tone, and can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation.

Here are some common types as below:

  • Crystal Microdermabrasion
  • Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion

Following are the procedure steps:

1. Preparation: The patient's skin is cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, or dirt.

Eye protection may be provided to shield the eyes from the exfoliating crystals or debris.

2. Microdermabrasion Process: The technician or dermatologist selects the appropriate type of microdermabrasion (crystal or diamond-tip) based on the patient's skin type and concerns.

The device is applied to the skin in a smooth, sweeping motion.

For crystal microdermabrasion, fine crystals are sprayed onto the skin's surface and immediately vacuumed away, along with dead skin cells.

For diamond-tip microdermabrasion, the wand is moved over the skin's surface, gently abrading the outer layer, and the exfoliated skin is vacuumed away simultaneously.

The procedure typically lasts 30-60 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

3. Post-Treatment: The skin is cleansed again to remove any residual crystals or debris.

A soothing moisturizer and sunscreen are applied to protect the newly exfoliated skin.

Patients may experience mild redness and sensitivity for a few hours to a couple of days post-treatment.
