Imaging mammography is a specialized medical imaging technique that uses low-dose X-rays to create detailed images of the breast.

Mammography plays a critical role in the early detection of breast cancer by identifying changes in the breast tissue that may not be palpable or visible otherwise.

Here are some common types as below:

Following are the procedure steps:

Preparation: The patient is asked to remove any jewelry or clothing from the waist up and is given a gown. A technologist will position the patient’s breast on the mammography machine's platform. The breast will be compressed between two plates to spread the tissue evenly for clearer images. This may cause some discomfort but is essential for the image quality.

Imaging Process: X-rays are taken from different angles. For 2D mammography, usually two views (top-to-bottom and side) are taken for each breast. For 3D mammography, the machine moves in an arc around the breast, taking multiple images. The whole procedure takes about 15 to 30 minutes.

Post-Imaging: After the images are captured, a radiologist reviews the mammograms to check for any abnormalities. If any suspicious areas are identified, further tests like additional mammograms, ultrasound, or biopsy may be recommended.
